Welcome to another year of Boys Rec Basketball. Boys of CliftonPark have been enjoying this program for over 20 years, going back to its roots in the CYO basketball program. We stress recreation, instruction, and fun - for players of all abilities. There are no tryouts for Rec basketball - everyone is placed on a team.
Registration opens September 13. You will be able to register:
1. online https://recs.egov.basgov.com/cliftonpark 2. in-person, Monday-Friday, 9 AM - 5 PM, at the Office of Parks, Recreation, and Community Affairs, at CP Town Hall 371-6667
You must pre-register for this program. There is a limited number of spaces, and they are first-come, first-served, so we recommend registering as soon as possible, to avoid being placed on a wait list. The fee is $90.
Please be sure to include your son's height when registering and also please indicate if you are willing to be a head or assistant coach - we are always happy to welcome new volunteers and are always looking for coaches.
This program is open to all boys, from grades 2 through 12, who live in the ShenendehowaSchool District, with the exception of boys who are registered on a travel basketball team in grades 2-8, who are not eligible to participate. Some first graders have been accepted each year as well, as long as they are able to compete in a division with both second and third graders. Please contact Barry McCabe if you would like to register a first grader.
We also offer a High School Boys Travel program, for which there will be tryouts in November. Players who are selected for a High School travel team also have the option of also playing in the Boys Rec program, so they can be registered for both. Please click on the High School Travel League link on the left side of this page.
Boys in Grades 8 and up are also eligible to become youth referees, to officiate our Rec games (they only ref for grades lower than the ones they are in). You must have played in the Rec program or our High School Travel program to be eligible to be a youth referee. There will be 2 training sessions, on November 4 at 3:15 PM and November 11 at 3:30 PM, at High School West. Please email Barry McCabe (address below) if you are interested in becoming a youth referee.
The Rec program is conducted on Saturdays, from the beginning of November through late March. All sessions last 1.5 hours, with the 1st ½ hour devoted to practice and the remaining hour devoted to actual game time. Players are rotated in and out of the actual game every 10 minutes (5 in grades 8-12) and playing time is mandated to be equivalent. While we do not keep track of an official score (or team standings) for most of the season in most divisions, we do conduct our annual“March Madness” play-off’s, over the course of 4 weeks, to determine 1st and 2nd place champions in each division.
Our season will start this year on Saturday November 4. This is the day that the boys are divided up into teams and are issued their game schedules for the season. Please note that there are no tryouts for Rec basketball, only for the high school Travel portion of the program.
Each player should report, on November 4, at the times listed (but you must have registered in advance):
1st day schedule for each division, for November 5 only, is:
