TOWN OF CLIFTON PARK

BOYS & GIRLS WINTER REC BASKETBALL

Welcome to another year of Rec Basketball. We are happy to welcome the girls to our program.
Boys of
Clifton Park/Halfmoon/Rexford have been
enjoying this program for over 27 years, going back to its roots in the CYO basketball program - and we are sure the girls will as well. We stress recreation, instruction, and fun - for players of all abilities. There are no tryouts for Rec basketball - everyone is placed on a team.

Registration opening is September 11, 2023. You can register:
1. online  (please use the link on the home page)

2. in-person, Monday-Friday, 9 AM - 5 PM, at the Office of Parks, Recreation, and Community Affairs, at CP Town Hall 518-371-6667

You must pre-register for this program. There is a limited number of spaces, and they are first-come, first-served, so we recommend registering as soon as possible, to avoid being placed on a wait list. The fee is $110 per player, up to Grade 9, and $145 per player for Grades 10-12 (where adult refs are used).

Please be sure to include your child's current height when registering and also please indicate if you are willing to be a head or assistant coach - we are always happy to welcome new volunteers and are always looking for coaches.

This program is open to all boys and girls, from grades 2 through 12, who live in the Shenendehowa  School District or the Town of Clifton Park (including Rexford), with the exception of boys who are registered on a travel basketball team in grades 2-8, who are not eligible to participate.  Some first graders have been accepted each year as well, as long as they are able to compete in a division with both second and third graders. Please contact Barry McCabe if you would like to register a first grader.

We also offer a High School Boys Travel program, for which there will be tryouts in November. Players who are selected for a High School travel team also have the option of also playing in the Boys Rec program, so they can be registered for both. Please click on the High School Travel League link on the left side of this page.

Boys and girls in Grades 8 and up are also eligible to become youth referees. Please see the Youth Referee tab on the left side of this page.

The Rec
program is conducted on Saturdays, from the beginning of November through late March.  All sessions last 1.5 hours, with approx. the 1st ½ hour devoted to practice and the remaining hour devoted to actual game time.  Players are rotated in and out of the  actual game every 10 minutes (5 in grades 8-12) and playing time is mandated to be equivalent. While we do not keep track of an official score (or team standings) for most of the season in most divisions, we do conduct our annual    “March Madness”  play-off’s, over the course of 4 weeks, to determine 1st and 2nd place champions in each division.

Our 2023-2024 season will start this year on Saturday, November 4. This is the day that the players are divided up into teams and are issued their game schedules for the season. Please note that there are no tryouts for Rec basketball, only for the  high school Travel portion of the program.

Team assignments will be emailed to players by November 2.
